How to Get Rid of Bed Bugs Menace

By Anthony Cook

Bed bugs cause unnecessary annoyance to family members in numerous households. These small vicious creatures thrive on the blood from warm blooded animals and if they can't find a human host they could go for a cat or dog as well. Pest control efforts should be carried out seriously if this problem is to be done away with.

Travelers often bring bed bugs with them to a new place where they multiply rapidly and begin annoying the residents of the home. Holes and cracks in room furniture and carpets are the best places for bed bugs to take shelter and prosper.

A widely held belief about bed bugs is that they grow in places with poor standards of cleanliness and hygiene, but this is a misconception. Since these pests feed on blood and not trash, cleanliness doesn't help in eradicating them. Nevertheless, keeping the surroundings sanitized and dirt free can aid in easy spotting of these pests.

Another popular myth related to bed bugs is that they are invisible without an aid as they are very small. In reality bed bugs are actually large enough to be seen without any magnifying device but they have a flat body which helps them vanish into little holes and clothing folds easily, making it tough to spot them.

Bed bugs bite. They can survive long without feeding - up to 6 months or a year.

When it comes to cleansing a house of bed bugs, not many people can do the job better than a professional pest controller, so it is better to hire such a person instead of trying to get rid of these pests on your own. Of course some home cures do fight bed bugs, like cleaning bed sheets, carpets and other infested items of clothing in hot water and afterwards putting them out to dry in the sun. Crevices in the walls must also be sealed, and furniture having lots of holes and other potential breeding grounds for bed bugs should preferably be done away with.
