Snoring And Sleeping?

By Barbara Smith

When you hear a friend complain about how they are unable to sleep properly since their partner is a snorer, it is often unavoidable to let out a giggle. But wait before you do, this issue is not as humorous as it may seem, at least not for those who experience it first hand.

Snoring is caused by obstructed nasal or air passage ways that results in vibrating respiratory structures, producing a mild to loud sound during sleep. There can be several reasons behind the blockage causing the sound; it could be due to nasal congestion or loose bulky tissue in the throat. Weak muscles along the throat and tongue can also cause obstruction since the tongue literally falls back at the back of the throat when the person is asleep, and leads to the blocked air passages and hence snoring.

Because spouses usually suffer from sleepless night due to partner?s snoring habits, they are usually the ones who diagnose it, as an individual who snores is rarely aware of his/her condition For the snorer, although they sleep well being unaware, long gaps between breaths could result in lack of oxygen in the blood stream which may be a sign on potential dangerous since deprivation of oxygen can inhibit the functioning of vital organs, as is the case with sleep apnea.

An individual who snores is rarely aware of his/her condition and it is first diagnosed by their spouse or partner, since they?re the ones suffering through sleepless nights. For the snorer, although they sleep soundly through the racket, long interruptions in breathing could result in oxygen deprivation in the blood stream which can be potentially dangerous since deprivation of oxygen can hamper with the normal functioning of vital organs, as is the case with sleep apnea.

Several studies have been conducted and have shown a higher incidence of strokes and heart attacks in patients who snore, and poor quality of sleep in patients who snored are likely to have a shorter lifespan due to lack of adequate sleep. Snoring in a majority of cases can be easily treated without surgery and it should not affect your lifestyle. Get treatment for it today, rather than allowing your personal and social life to suffer.
